Why Spider-Ham matters to collectors
Peter Porker is the best joke Marvel ever kept. The gag is deliberately inverted - a spider named May Parker bit a pig - and the character survived because the comics played the absurdity completely straight. Into the Spider-Verse then put him in a film that made a cartoon pig land emotionally, which nobody expected.
Key issues and milestones
- Marvel Tails #1 (1983) - The debut one-shot, in a funny-animal format Marvel was experimenting with at the time.
- Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham #1 (1985) - The ongoing series, which ran seventeen issues and built out an entire parody universe.
- Spider-Verse (2014) - The crossover that gathered every Spider variant, and the one that made Spider-Ham canon to the wider line.
- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) - John Mulaney voices him, and the film commits to the cartoon-physics bit without breaking its own tone.
In his own continuity the spider that bit him was called May Parker, a spider who had been experimenting on herself, and she turned into a human woman in the same accident.
Collecting Spider-Ham through the years
Marvel Tails #1 spent thirty-five years as a curiosity that dealers could not give away, and the 2018 film changed that in a matter of weeks. It is a 1983 book with a normal print run and almost no deliberate preservation, since nobody bags a funny-animal one-shot, so clean copies are harder than the date suggests. The 1985 ongoing remains cheap and complete runs turn up regularly. It is one of the clearest examples in comics of a film pulling a forgotten book out of the bins.

Spider-Ham on VeVe
VeVe has released Spider-Ham as a figure. The appeal is the proportions - a cartoon character sculpted with real depth and material detail is a different object from a flat drawing, and the AR display scale makes the joke land harder rather than softer. The release follows the standard scheduled drop model with tiered rarities.
